Del Mar Real Estate

Del Mar - the word brings to one's mind sunny beaches and cool ocean breezes. As the name implies, Del Mar ('by the sea' in Spanish), is a beautiful beach community in the North Coastal region of San Diego County, California. This coastal community is surrounded by Solana Beach to the north, Torrey Pines State Reserve to the south and Carmel Valley to the east. The Pacific Ocean forms the border of the 2.9 miles of captivating coastline on the west. Downtown San Diego, which is roughly 19 miles to the south, is connected to Del Mar by Interstate 5.

Incorporated in 1959, Del Mar is a prosperous town that offers all the pleasures of oceanside living. Del Mar real estate consists of 7,338 households. Over 17,721 residents populate the city. Del Mar real estate is resplendent with the choicest of oceanfront properties, beachfront mansions, and custom homes.

The Del Mar Fair, held every summer at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, forms one of the greatest attractions in this picturesque beach community. The Del Mar Fairgrounds are packed with attractions, exhibits, concerts, thrill rides, contests and other social and cultural activities in the month of June. The fair is the 5th largest in the country, and is a yearly tradition that dates back to 1936, drawing more than a million participants from all over the world.

This coastal community is also extremely popular for its horse race season that begins in July and extends up to September. The Del Mar fairground also serves as the racetrack during the racing season in summer. One of the most famous racing tracks in the world, Del Mar Race track attracts visitors from all over the globe. This exciting and much anticipated event of the year is packed with racing for six days a week, offering breathtaking performances of thoroughbred racehorses.

The beaches of Del Mar are one of the most popular destinations in San Diego.  Del Mar's three beaches offer fantastic outdoor activities, from surfing, swimming, boogie boarding to basking under a pleasant warm sun. Another of Del Mar's popular attractions is going on a fantastic adventure on a hot air balloon at sunset. The view from the hot air balloon ride is simply breathtaking! Besides its top surf locations, the community also offers excellent golf resorts and country clubs.

The community has some of the most stunning landscapes in San Diego County. Towards the south of Del Mar lies the Torrey Pines State Reserve. This is a 2,000-acre natural habitat for rare Torrey pine trees with miles of pristine seashore and a lagoon for the migrating birds.

Del Mar real estate is also rich with commercial properties. Shopping is a fascinating affair in this quaint beach town. The Corona Del Mar Plaza, with its lovely ocean view, offers an exciting shopping experience and its restaurants offer a romantic ocean view dining experience. Del Mar is known for some of the best restaurants in the county that offer a variety of sumptuous cuisine including the freshest of seafood.

Del Mar real estate falls under the 92014 Zip code and presents some of the most beautiful beach homes, traditional single-family homes and condominiums for sale. Most of the homes featured under Del Mar real estate were built between 40’s and 80's. The median home price of a single-family home was $1,575,000 as of July 2007. Del Mar real estate also offers a diverse range of custom homes with gorgeous ocean views. Its lovely beaches and spectacular landscape makes Del Mar real estate a most popular choice of second homebuyers.

Del Mar has a flourishing business district that presents a medley of specialty apparel shops, gourmet restaurants, hotels, retail shops etc. The perfect weather, beautiful white beaches, fresh outdoor air and innumerable opportunities for fun, form a great factor for a thriving tourism industry too.

Given the community's rare and innate richness, it’s very reassuring to know that Del Mar has undertaken to safeguard itself. A slow growth policy has helped in restricting rapid expansion and allowed for the preservation of open spaces and natural environment. For example, high-rise apartment buildings, that obstruct views and make concrete blocks out of lush green villages, are prohibited. All this has helped Del Mar preserve its small-town charm and village ambience.

The rich and sophisticated Del Mar real estate is the crowning glory of this wonderful community. One cannot help but fall in love with the lovely homes on lush hillsides covered by copious trees or by the breathtaking views of the canyon. Del Mar real estate offers one and all the endless fascination of living by the ocean in sunny San Diego.

Del Mar is simply irresistible be it for its panoramic ocean view homes, fun on the pristine beaches, excellent dining, or relaxation at the races. With its lovely beaches, small town feel and a great standard of living rivaled only by La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe - its neighboring communities, this picturesque coastal town is bound to be a sure hit most home buyers.
